Black Moon in Pisces

In Pisces, the Call takes the quality of the sign: opening ordinary boundaries onto a vaster unity. I would like to show what this lack demands of each of the three Black Moons, and where it finds a livable form.

What Pisces does to the Call

Pisces is the sign of water without banks: dream, compassion, the invisible, what exceeds the person. When a Black Moon stands here, the lack lodges in separation itself. I see this placement in people for whom limits, separations and the hardness of the real are painful, and who seek in fusion, sacrifice or escape a way out of what divides; and in others who have given themselves boundaries so rigid that nothing crosses them anymore. The lack is not fragility. It is a place left open in unity, and that place calls.

I then read the three Black Moons separately, because they do not ask for the same thing in the same sign: the Mean seeks a course there, the True brings up what calls in the body, the Corrected seeks attunement between the two. For each, here is what I wrote in volume 1.

Mean Black Moon in Pisces: the Alicorn

The Mean holds the course, and in Pisces that course takes the quality of the sign. The demand is fine and it is formidable, and the answer is never to reach the absolute perfectly:

In Pisces, the Alicorn indicates a direction in which ordinary boundaries must be able to open onto a greater unity. The desire to regain this unity can make separations, limits, and the harshness of reality painful, to the point of seeking in fusion, sacrifice, or escape a way out of what divides. The response is to let the invisible pass through a form without abolishing that form: to love without disappearing, welcome without dissolving, and give a concrete presence to what cannot be contained.

True Black Moon in Pisces: Athena

The True shows what calls in the instant, in the body. In Pisces, matter rises in its own way, and Athena reveals what can no longer be deferred:

In Pisces, the reminder comes through dreams, images, diffuse emotions, and a particular sensitivity to atmospheres. A sensation difficult to name may flood experience when the usual boundaries no longer suffice to contain what rises. The response begins when a rhythm, practice, creation, or bodily presence gives banks to what had no contours, so that openness does not become dissolution. In the sixth house, Athena becomes particularly perceptible in daily work, habits, and the relationship to the body. Persistent fatigue can make a long-postponed need recognizable before life has to break the form that has become too narrow for it. The response begins when a concrete organization of existence allows this need to find a place instead of having to return as a rupture.

Corrected Black Moon in Pisces: the Unicorn

The Corrected seeks attunement between the course and the push. In Pisces, that attunement has its own terms:

In Pisces, attunement is sought between openness to what exceeds the individual and the need to preserve a form capable of carrying it. Compassion can become fusion or sacrifice, while overly rigid boundaries cut one off from what simply asked to be welcomed. The Unicorn seeks banks supple enough to let the water pass without its sweeping everything away: opening without dissolving. In the seventh house, this search proceeds through encounter. The person may expect perfect agreement from the other, avoid conflict to preserve a fragile peace, or, conversely, defend autonomy until every alliance becomes impossible. The Unicorn seeks to build a relationship in which difference becomes dialogue instead of being denied or fought.

The open cross in Pisces

Each Black Moon unfolds a cross: four stations that go from the call to the trial of the return, and that occupy the four signs of a single cross of the zodiac. The one starting from Pisces passes through Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius: the call in Pisces, the price of passage in Gemini, the response at the point in Virgo, the trial of the return in Sagittarius.

In volume 2 I set side by side, station by station, the two respondents that travel this cross, Apollo for the Corrected, the form made habitable, and Priapus for the True, the power made present. At the first station, I have Priapus say, in Pisces:

"I want to disappear into something bigger than myself, now, with no remainder. Keeping an outline is the worry of one who's afraid of losing themselves — me, losing myself is already finding myself."

And Apollo:

"I want to melt souls into a single love, erase pain through empathy, and touch the unspeakable through music, poetry, and contemplation. The world is a single breath."

The three other stations, and what each one costs, are read in the book.

What the book adds

Volume 1 gives for each Black Moon the complete portrait of the sign, and volume 2 unfolds the open cross in Pisces over its four stations, for Apollo and for Priapus, with the relationship to the world, to constraint, to otherness and to the future that each one engages. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lilith in Pisces mean?

That the Call of the Black Moon takes the quality of Pisces: opening ordinary boundaries onto a vaster unity. I do not read it as a shadow, but as a demand seeking a livable form, and that form is not the same for the Mean, the True and the Corrected.

Are my three Black Moons in the same sign?

Not always. The True can stray from the Mean by up to about thirty degrees, and the three are often found in two different signs. The application tells you which ones are in Pisces.
