Black Moon in Virgo

In Virgo, the Call takes the quality of the sign: discerning, refining and serving what can be improved. I would like to show what this lack demands of each of the three Black Moons, and where it finds a livable form.

What Virgo does to the Call

Virgo is the sign of earth that sorts: the precise gesture, work, care, the imperfection spotted before anything else. When a Black Moon stands here, the lack lodges in rightness. I see this placement in people for whom imperfection is almost unbearable, and whose work on themselves or on the world has become an endless correction; and in others who, seeing everything that is wrong, no longer dare undertake anything. The lack is not fussiness. It is a place left open in discernment, and that place calls.

I then read the three Black Moons separately, because they do not ask for the same thing in the same sign: the Mean seeks a course there, the True brings up what calls in the body, the Corrected seeks attunement between the two. For each, here is what I wrote in volume 1.

Mean Black Moon in Virgo: the Alicorn

The Mean holds the course, and in Virgo that course takes the quality of the sign. The demand is fine and it is formidable, and the answer is never to reach the absolute perfectly:

In Virgo, the Alicorn indicates a direction of discernment, precision, and service to what can be improved. An acute perception of what could be more fitting can make imperfection almost unbearable and turn work on oneself or the world into endless correction. The response is to put this intelligence at the service of life: to distinguish without condemning, improve without despising what remains unfinished, and recognize that a work can be right without being perfect.

True Black Moon in Virgo: Athena

The True shows what calls in the instant, in the body. In Virgo, matter rises in its own way, and Athena reveals what can no longer be deferred:

In Virgo, matter manifests through the body, everyday gestures, and an immediate perception of what no longer works. Fatigue, irritation, or the need to restore order may become the first signs that the organization of life no longer meets life’s actual needs. The response is to discern what truly requires adjustment, without turning this intelligence into a war against every imperfection.

Corrected Black Moon in Virgo: the Unicorn

The Corrected seeks attunement between the course and the push. In Virgo, that attunement has its own terms:

In Virgo, the desire to serve can slide into control, judgment, or exhaustion. Attunement is sought in discernment that heals without humiliating and service that does not demand self-erasure. Imperfection then ceases to be a fault; it becomes the very matter of the work.

The open cross in Virgo

Each Black Moon unfolds a cross: four stations that go from the call to the trial of the return, and that occupy the four signs of a single cross of the zodiac. The one starting from Virgo passes through Sagittarius, Pisces and Gemini: the call in Virgo, the price of passage in Sagittarius, the response at the point in Pisces, the trial of the return in Gemini.

In volume 2 I set side by side, station by station, the two respondents that travel this cross, Apollo for the Corrected, the form made habitable, and Priapus for the True, the power made present. At the first station, I have Priapus say, in Virgo:

"I see what's wrong before anything else: it's my gaze, precise, immediate, and it doesn't have to apologize for spotting the flaw before the façade."

And Apollo:

"I want to serve, sort, heal, and put order into the world. Every detail counts; it is in the infinitesimal that divine beauty hides."

The three other stations, and what each one costs, are read in the book.

What the book adds

Volume 1 gives for each Black Moon the complete portrait of the sign, and volume 2 unfolds the open cross in Virgo over its four stations, for Apollo and for Priapus, with the relationship to the world, to constraint, to otherness and to the future that each one engages. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lilith in Virgo mean?

That the Call of the Black Moon takes the quality of Virgo: discerning, refining and serving what can be improved. I do not read it as a shadow, but as a demand seeking a livable form, and that form is not the same for the Mean, the True and the Corrected.

Are my three Black Moons in the same sign?

Not always. The True can stray from the Mean by up to about thirty degrees, and the three are often found in two different signs. The application tells you which ones are in Virgo.
