Black Moon in Sagittarius

In Sagittarius, the Call takes the quality of the sign: reaching a meaning vaster than experience. I would like to show what this lack demands of each of the three Black Moons, and where it finds a livable form.

What Sagittarius does to the Call

Sagittarius is the sign of fire that aims far: journey, study, conviction, horizon. When a Black Moon stands here, the lack lodges in meaning. I meet, with this placement, people for whom provisional truths are too narrow, and who seek the doctrine, the journey or the conviction that would finally give a definitive answer; and others who run from horizon to horizon without ever inhabiting one. The lack is not the absence of faith. It is a place left open in direction, and that place calls.

I then read the three Black Moons separately, because they do not ask for the same thing in the same sign: the Mean seeks a course there, the True brings up what calls in the body, the Corrected seeks attunement between the two. For each, here is what I wrote in volume 1.

Mean Black Moon in Sagittarius: the Alicorn

The Mean holds the course, and in Sagittarius that course takes the quality of the sign. The demand is fine and it is formidable, and the answer is never to reach the absolute perfectly:

In Sagittarius, the Alicorn indicates a direction in which experience must be able to connect with a meaning greater than itself. The need for coherence can make provisional truths feel narrow, prompting a search for the doctrine, journey, or conviction that would finally provide a definitive answer, then confusing orientation with certainty. The response is to let meaning guide the journey without claiming to possess the horizon: to pass on what illuminates, while leaving truth enough space to keep growing.

True Black Moon in Sagittarius: Athena

The True shows what calls in the instant, in the body. In Sagittarius, matter rises in its own way, and Athena reveals what can no longer be deferred:

In Sagittarius, matter appears as a need for movement, space, experience, or a widening of the horizon. Impatience and the desire to leave may signal that a way of life no longer allows life to explore what it has become capable of encountering. The response is to give experience enough space to transform one’s understanding of the world, which does not always require traveling far.

Corrected Black Moon in Sagittarius: the Unicorn

The Corrected seeks attunement between the course and the push. In Sagittarius, that attunement has its own terms:

In Sagittarius, mediation concerns the relationship between lived experience and the meaning assigned to it. A conviction may become so vast that it leaves no room for reality, while openness without orientation scatters the journey. The Unicorn seeks a truth strong enough to guide without becoming doctrine: following a horizon without claiming to possess it.

The open cross in Sagittarius

Each Black Moon unfolds a cross: four stations that go from the call to the trial of the return, and that occupy the four signs of a single cross of the zodiac. The one starting from Sagittarius passes through Pisces, Gemini and Virgo: the call in Sagittarius, the price of passage in Pisces, the response at the point in Gemini, the trial of the return in Virgo.

In volume 2 I set side by side, station by station, the two respondents that travel this cross, Apollo for the Corrected, the form made habitable, and Priapus for the True, the power made present. At the first station, I have Priapus say, in Sagittarius:

"I know what is true, and I know it right away. Another truth may well stand beside mine — mine doesn't need it in order to stand."

And Apollo:

"I want to understand the world, find the hidden meaning of things, and share this flame with everyone. The horizon is infinite, and every step is a joy."

The three other stations, and what each one costs, are read in the book.

What the book adds

Volume 1 gives for each Black Moon the complete portrait of the sign, and volume 2 unfolds the open cross in Sagittarius over its four stations, for Apollo and for Priapus, with the relationship to the world, to constraint, to otherness and to the future that each one engages. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lilith in Sagittarius mean?

That the Call of the Black Moon takes the quality of Sagittarius: reaching a meaning vaster than experience. I do not read it as a shadow, but as a demand seeking a livable form, and that form is not the same for the Mean, the True and the Corrected.

Are my three Black Moons in the same sign?

Not always. The True can stray from the Mean by up to about thirty degrees, and the three are often found in two different signs. The application tells you which ones are in Sagittarius.
