Lilith in the birth chart

Black Moon in Libra

In Libra, the Call takes the quality of the sign: a relationship in which justice, beauty and equality would coincide. I would like to show what this lack demands of each of the three Black Moons, and where it finds a livable form.

What Libra does to the Call

Libra is the sign of air that weighs: the encounter, the agreement, the measure, the other opposite. When a Black Moon stands here, the lack lodges in relationship. I meet, with this placement, people whom a convenient agreement does not satisfy, who set aside imperfect bonds or expect the other to embody an absolute; and others who give up their own position to preserve an apparent peace. The lack is not being demanding in love. It is a place left open in the bond, and that place calls.

I then read the three Black Moons separately, because they do not ask for the same thing in the same sign: the Mean seeks a course there, the True brings up what calls in the body, the Corrected seeks attunement between the two. For each, here is what I wrote in volume 1.

Mean Black Moon in Libra: the Alicorn

The Mean holds the course, and in Libra that course takes the quality of the sign. The demand is fine and it is formidable, and the answer is never to reach the absolute perfectly:

In Libra, the Alicorn aspires to a relationship in which justice, beauty, and equality would coincide perfectly, and a convenient agreement does not satisfy it. The risk is rejecting imperfect bonds or expecting the other to embody this absolute, and the response begins when every actual relationship becomes an opportunity to create greater rightness.

True Black Moon in Libra: Athena

The True shows what calls in the instant, in the body. In Libra, matter rises in its own way, and Athena reveals what can no longer be deferred:

In Libra, matter becomes perceptible in relationship and in the reactions the other’s presence provokes. A tension, desire, fascination, or sense of injustice may reveal what a relationship had until then kept out of sight. Athena shows what seeks a place between oneself and the other, and the response is to build a relationship in which the desire for connection requires neither submission nor the elimination of difference.

Corrected Black Moon in Libra: the Unicorn

The Corrected seeks attunement between the course and the push. In Libra, that attunement has its own terms:

In Libra, mediation itself becomes the heart of experience. Agreement may be so sought after that every difference seems to threaten the relationship, or one gives up one’s own position to maintain an apparent peace; conversely, fear of dependence may make every compromise suspect. The Unicorn seeks a fitting distance: meeting the other without losing oneself, maintaining one’s place without breaking the bond.

The open cross in Libra

Each Black Moon unfolds a cross: four stations that go from the call to the trial of the return, and that occupy the four signs of a single cross of the zodiac. The one starting from Libra passes through Capricorn, Aries and Cancer: the call in Libra, the price of passage in Capricorn, the response at the point in Aries, the trial of the return in Cancer.

In volume 2 I set side by side, station by station, the two respondents that travel this cross, Apollo for the Corrected, the form made habitable, and Priapus for the True, the power made present. At the first station, I have Priapus say, in Libra:

"I want it to fall into accord, now. An accord that waits isn't one, to me: I want it alive, not negotiated to death."

And Apollo:

"I want to create bridges, just contracts, beautiful unions. Every relationship is a work of art to co-create, a dynamic and living balance."

The three other stations, and what each one costs, are read in the book.

What the book adds

Volume 1 gives for each Black Moon the complete portrait of the sign, and volume 2 unfolds the open cross in Libra over its four stations, for Apollo and for Priapus, with the relationship to the world, to constraint, to otherness and to the future that each one engages. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lilith in Libra mean?

That the Call of the Black Moon takes the quality of Libra: a relationship in which justice, beauty and equality would coincide. I do not read it as a shadow, but as a demand seeking a livable form, and that form is not the same for the Mean, the True and the Corrected.

Are my three Black Moons in the same sign?

Not always. The True can stray from the Mean by up to about thirty degrees, and the three are often found in two different signs. The application tells you which ones are in Libra.
