Black Moon in Gemini

In Gemini, the Call takes the quality of the sign: connecting, naming and distinguishing in order to understand. I would like to show what this lack demands of each of the three Black Moons, and where it finds a livable form.

What Gemini does to the Call

Gemini is the sign of air that circulates: words, links, possibilities. When a Black Moon stands here, the lack lodges in understanding. I meet, with this placement, minds that cannot bear confinement in a single truth and multiply information, words and possibilities until they inhabit none of them; and others who look for the right word and never find it in time. The lack is not lightness. It is a place left open in the way of connecting, and that place calls.

I then read the three Black Moons separately, because they do not ask for the same thing in the same sign: the Mean seeks a course there, the True brings up what calls in the body, the Corrected seeks attunement between the two. For each, here is what I wrote in volume 1.

Mean Black Moon in Gemini: the Alicorn

The Mean holds the course, and in Gemini that course takes the quality of the sign. The demand is fine and it is formidable, and the answer is never to reach the absolute perfectly:

In Gemini, the Alicorn indicates a direction in which understanding requires connecting, naming, and distinguishing. It can make confinement within a single truth intolerable and drive one to multiply information, words, or possibilities until one no longer inhabits any of them. The response is to make the mind’s mobility an instrument of discernment: finding words capable of connecting what seemed separate then matters more than knowing everything.

True Black Moon in Gemini: Athena

The True shows what calls in the instant, in the body. In Gemini, matter rises in its own way, and Athena reveals what can no longer be deferred:

In Gemini, matter emerges in the need to speak, understand, name, or connect what remained separate. Mental agitation, withheld speech, or a curiosity that can no longer be contained may signal that an experience is still seeking its language. The response begins when words stop scattering experience and allow life to recognize what it is going through.

Corrected Black Moon in Gemini: the Unicorn

The Corrected seeks attunement between the course and the push. In Gemini, that attunement has its own terms:

In Gemini, attunement is sought between the multiplicity of possibilities and the need to give an intelligible form to what seeks to be transmitted. Mobility can become dispersion, while a definition made too quickly confines what still needed exploring. The Unicorn seeks speech precise enough to connect without fixing: choosing words without claiming to exhaust what they designate.

The open cross in Gemini

Each Black Moon unfolds a cross: four stations that go from the call to the trial of the return, and that occupy the four signs of a single cross of the zodiac. The one starting from Gemini passes through Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces: the call in Gemini, the price of passage in Virgo, the response at the point in Sagittarius, the trial of the return in Pisces.

In volume 2 I set side by side, station by station, the two respondents that travel this cross, Apollo for the Corrected, the form made habitable, and Priapus for the True, the power made present. At the first station, I have Priapus say, in Gemini:

"I want to know, and to know now. An open question, I close it with the thing itself — not with one more hypothesis."

And Apollo:

"I want to learn everything, understand everything, and connect humans to each other through language, writing, and curiosity. The world is a fascinating text to decipher together."

The three other stations, and what each one costs, are read in the book.

What the book adds

Volume 1 gives for each Black Moon the complete portrait of the sign, and volume 2 unfolds the open cross in Gemini over its four stations, for Apollo and for Priapus, with the relationship to the world, to constraint, to otherness and to the future that each one engages. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lilith in Gemini mean?

That the Call of the Black Moon takes the quality of Gemini: connecting, naming and distinguishing in order to understand. I do not read it as a shadow, but as a demand seeking a livable form, and that form is not the same for the Mean, the True and the Corrected.

Are my three Black Moons in the same sign?

Not always. The True can stray from the Mean by up to about thirty degrees, and the three are often found in two different signs. The application tells you which ones are in Gemini.
