In Cancer, the Call takes the quality of the sign: protecting, belonging and caring. I would like to show what this lack demands of each of the three Black Moons, and where it finds a livable form.
What Cancer does to the Call
Cancer is the sign of water that keeps: home, memory, intimacy, what nourishes. When a Black Moon stands here, the lack lodges in belonging. I see this placement in people who seek a family, a past or an intimacy capable of abolishing all separation, and who then suffer every distance as an abandonment; and in others who protect themselves so well that no bond reaches them anymore. The lack is not an excess of sensitivity. It is a place left open in the shelter, and that place calls.
I then read the three Black Moons separately, because they do not ask for the same thing in the same sign: the Mean seeks a course there, the True brings up what calls in the body, the Corrected seeks attunement between the two. For each, here is what I wrote in volume 1.
Mean Black Moon in Cancer: the Alicorn
The Mean holds the course, and in Cancer that course takes the quality of the sign. The demand is fine and it is formidable, and the answer is never to reach the absolute perfectly:
In Cancer, the Alicorn indicates a direction in which protecting, belonging, and caring must find a fitting form. The desire for an absolute home can lead one to seek a family, a past, or an intimacy capable of abolishing all separation, then to experience every distance as abandonment. The response is to build a belonging that welcomes without holding captive, and an inner security deep enough for the bond no longer to demand that every boundary disappear.

True Black Moon in Cancer: Athena
The True shows what calls in the instant, in the body. In Cancer, matter rises in its own way, and Athena reveals what can no longer be deferred:
In Cancer, matter rises through the need for protection, intimacy, emotional nourishment, or a return to an inner place where something can be welcomed. Hypersensitivity, withdrawal, or a family memory may reveal a vulnerability long protected behind a shell that has become too narrow. The response is to offer it shelter without turning that shelter into confinement.

Corrected Black Moon in Cancer: the Unicorn
The Corrected seeks attunement between the course and the push. In Cancer, that attunement has its own terms:
In Cancer, mediation concerns the need for belonging, memory, and protection. The search for shelter may lead to holding back what should be able to leave, while defensive detachment deprives life of the place it needs to settle. The Unicorn seeks a home that protects without confining: keeping the bond without capturing, welcoming the past without surrendering the future to it.

The open cross in Cancer
Each Black Moon unfolds a cross: four stations that go from the call to the trial of the return, and that occupy the four signs of a single cross of the zodiac. The one starting from Cancer passes through Libra, Capricorn and Aries: the call in Cancer, the price of passage in Libra, the response at the point in Capricorn, the trial of the return in Aries.
In volume 2 I set side by side, station by station, the two respondents that travel this cross, Apollo for the Corrected, the form made habitable, and Priapus for the True, the power made present. At the first station, I have Priapus say, in Cancer:
"I want what is mine to remain mine. Letting go is not wisdom: it's a loss, and I refuse to call it anything else."

And Apollo:
"I want to build a place where tenderness, memory, and trust reign. A space where one can settle, nourish oneself, and reveal oneself."

The three other stations, and what each one costs, are read in the book.
What the book adds
Volume 1 gives for each Black Moon the complete portrait of the sign, and volume 2 unfolds the open cross in Cancer over its four stations, for Apollo and for Priapus, with the relationship to the world, to constraint, to otherness and to the future that each one engages. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.
Frequently asked questions
What does Lilith in Cancer mean?
That the Call of the Black Moon takes the quality of Cancer: protecting, belonging and caring. I do not read it as a shadow, but as a demand seeking a livable form, and that form is not the same for the Mean, the True and the Corrected.
Are my three Black Moons in the same sign?
Not always. The True can stray from the Mean by up to about thirty degrees, and the three are often found in two different signs. The application tells you which ones are in Cancer.
