Lilith in the birth chart

Black Moon in house 4

In house 4, the Call makes itself heard in home and roots. I would like to show what this lack asks, and why its answer is found not in house 4 but in the house opposite.

What house 4 calls for

The fourth house is the house of the ground: home, parents, lineage, what was handed down before one could choose, and the inner security that lets one settle. A Black Moon here sets the lack in the roots. I see this placement in people who spend their lives looking for the home they never had, or who have a home and do not feel at home in it; in others, family memory weighs like a debt whose creditor is unknown. The lack is not a flaw. It is a place left open, and that place calls.

The answer stands opposite

Here is the point of method that governs this whole page. Each Black Moon has its respondent, the point facing it in the chart: to the apogee, which moves the Moon away, answers the perigee, which brings it close. The Call occupies one end of the axis, the answer the other. A Black Moon in house 4 therefore has its answer in house 10. What is missing from the home is not repaired by staying home, but by daring a visible act that, afterwards, gives the house a ground.

Three Black Moons, three respondents. Christos answers the Mean, the Alicorn: the Word that accepts to take flesh. Apollo answers the Corrected, the Unicorn: attunement that accepts a realizable form. Priapus answers the True, Athena: vital power become presence in matter. For each, here is the opening of its worksheet in house 10, as I wrote it in volume 2: the figure, the risk, the answer. The facets that follow remain in the book.

Mean Black Moon in house 4: Christos in house 10

The Mean in house 4 carries the Call of the Alicorn in home and roots. Its answer is Christos in house 10, “the first act before all”:

In house 10, the Pioneer dares to take visible responsibility when the situation calls for initiative. Like the officer stepping into a vacant post, he publicly commits his conviction before his place is secure. His act makes possible a beginning others hesitated to carry. Being recognized as the initiator may matter more than the work to be served. The person then refuses a useful responsibility as soon as someone else has laid its foundations. Take responsibility for the consequences of the public initiative, including the less visible work that makes it endure.

Corrected Black Moon in house 4: Apollo in house 10

The Corrected in house 4 carries the Call of the Unicorn in home and roots. Its answer is Apollo in house 10, “Exercising a Responsible Authority”:

In house 10, the Archer-Justiciar acts within vocation, public responsibility, and the place occupied in the world. The response must become visible and bear its consequences. The person can carry a difficult decision, defend a collective demand, and offer a direction when the group scatters. Their authority becomes credible when they accept being judged on their acts, not only on their intentions. They can build a lasting work because they understand that justice requires structures, timeframes, and a clearly assumed responsibility.

True Black Moon in house 4: Priapus in house 10

The True in house 4 carries the Call of Athena in home and roots. Its answer is Priapus in house 10, “the desire that wants to reign”:

In house 10, vitality nourishes a frank ambition: to succeed, exert influence, take a visible place. Desire here owns its drive toward power and public recognition. This ambition can become a need for domination for its own sake, where power stops serving a work and becomes its own justification. Once at the summit, it remains to test what power makes possible for those over whom it is exercised.

What the book adds

Each worksheet of volume 2 continues beyond these three paragraphs: the facets of the respondent, one by one, with their gift, their drift and their attunement. For Christos, the Proclaimer, the Builder, the Visionary, the Reformer; for Apollo, the Poet, the Radiant Sovereign, the Healing Prophet, the Lawgiving Physician; for Priapus, the Pruning Hook, the Club, the Horn of Plenty, Ugliness. That is where the reading becomes precise, and that is where I left it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lilith in the 4th house mean?

That the Call of the Black Moon makes itself heard in home and roots. I do not read it as a shadow at this point of life, but as a lack that asks for an answer, and that answer takes shape in the opposite house, house 10.

Should I look at the mean, true or corrected Black Moon in house 4?

All three, if they are there. They are not always in the same house, and each has its respondent: Christos for the Mean, Apollo for the Corrected, Priapus for the True. The application tells you which ones are in house 4.
